Basic Federal Labor and Employee Relations Training
Program and Information (September 16 - 19, 2008)
The Society is sponsoring two intensive training opportunities on Federal Labor Relations and Federal Employee Relations. Basic LR will be held Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17, 2008, and includes topics such as Terms and Roles of Third Parties; Bargaining units and Exclusive Representation; Statutory Rights of the Parties; Representation Rights; Formal discussions and investigations; Grievances and Arbitration, and much more. The Faculty for this course includes Howard Friedman, President NTEU Chapter 245/USPTO; Commissioner Rich Giacolone, FMCS; and Don Musacchio, formerly with the Departments of Agriculture and Navy.
Basic ER will be held Thursday, September 18 and Friday, September 19, 2008, and includes among other topics: Annual and sick leave; Leave without pay and AWOL; Dealing with attendance issues; Performance Management; Critical elements and standards; Performance-based actions, and Disciplinary Action. Faculty members are Howard Friedman, President NTEU Chapter 245/USPTO; and Barbara Haga, formerly with NASA.
Training Location, Times and Hotel Accommodations
The courses will be held at the Maceo Smith Federal Building, Room 910, 525 South Griffin Street, Dallas, Texas 75202. (southwest corner of Griffin and Young streets.) Parking is available at surface lots on Young and Lamar streets. You must pass through a metal detector upon entering the Federal facility. Photo ID required for entrance. No hotel arrangements have been made for individuals attending the training but the West End Hotel is 4-5 blocks away at 1015 Elm Street, tel. 214-742-5678.
Cancellation Policy and Refunds
Your registration fee will be refunded (except for a $50 cancellation fee) if you cancel your registration in writing by Friday, September 5, 2008. No refunds will be issued after that date and purchase orders and other forms will be invoiced. Substitutions are permitted at any time but the member/non member rate will apply. Registration Procedure
To register for the courses simply fill out and print the Registration Form, select either or both of the courses offered, include form of payment and mail all materials by Friday, September 5, 2008, to SFLERP, PO Box 25112, Arlington, VA 22202. You may also fax the Registration form with credit card information to 703-685-1144. SFLERP accepts Visa and MasterCard with appropriate expiration date and signature. Checks, training authorizations (TA), DD Form 1556, and Purchase Orders, Form 182 are also accepted. There is an additional processing fee of $15 when paying by purchase orders or other forms. We regret that online registration is not available. The registration fee includes conference materials. Meals and hotel accommodations are on your own. Confirmation by e-mail will be sent within two weeks of receipt of registration. If you fill out a Membership Application and join SFLERP with your registration, you qualify to register at the discounted member rate. For tax-reporting purposes, SFLERP's FIN Number is 23-7283877.
